Chain Restaurants Aren't Really That Bad - You Can Admit It!
Topic: Crazy Encounters

I heart chain restaurants. I know it isn't cool for a young hip single who lives in the city to admit to enjoying such mundane suburban activities as chain restaurants. However, today? I do not care what others think of me. I'm here to sing the praises of those chains (with the exception of Applebee's b/c that's gross).

TGIFriday's, Chili's, Ruby Tuesday's, The Outback, Red Lobster and The Olive Garden are just a few of my favorites. I don't believe the food is excellent, but it is comfort food and most chains offer the best special of all.

The 22oz draft beer.

You can enjoy it with your Friday's Jack Daniels Sampler, your Chili's baby back ribs, your Tuesday's salad bar, your Outback Victoria's Filet, your Red Lobster garlic cheese biscuits or the Garden's all you can eat soup, salad and breadsticks.

How can you go wrong? See you at lunch!

One of Those Days
Topic: Crap I Don't Understand

I'm having one of those days. One of those days where you can't really pinpoint exactly why you feel a little off. It isn't hunger. It isn't lack of sleep. It isn't a hangover. I'm not sick. Nothing super special or tragic has happened, but I still feel off.

My Trip to San Francisco...Or The Time I Almost Died
Topic: Pictorials

Just got back from San Francisco and it was great, but very tiring. So much so that I accidentally turned on the gas from the back burner of my stove and then slept with it going all night (HI Roommate! Don't worry, everything's fine! You're out of town!) So, I got up this morning and am pretty sure that I'm on some kind of gas poisoning high. BUT, I'm alive, so that's all good, right?

In any case...photos!

Is the WGA Strike Affecting Hair and Makeup?
Topic: Television Obsession

In this winter of the WGA discontent (and I'm all for it - DVD and Internet residuals for all!) we are searching for something to watch on television. Now, I'm not going to tell you what shows are excellent or bad, but I will tell you about a show that is excellently bad! That show is One Tree Hill - the ladies at Go Fug Yourself said it much better than I could have, but I have to say, reading this entry, it was almost as if they were in my apartment for the two hour premiere.

I don't know about those girls, but we're hoping they devote an entire show to James Lafferty getting a haircut and a shave. I mean, come on, it worked for Dawson's Creek!

What's That? Football's Over?
Topic: SEC Sports Rule

Well, well, well...I guess all the sports pundits are eating their words right about now with LSU firmly atop the NCAA Football standings.

Year after year, the SEC produces a conference with such depth and talent. Finally, this year, with the exception of two losses (Florida and Arkansas) during bowl season the sports world will have to take notice. The SEC had the most teams selected for bowl participation this year as well and were able to out perform the other conferences by a 7 to 2 margin. Many of the teams winning by more than one touchdown.

However, let's take a look at those two losses, first up, Arkansas. Truth be told, they should have never been playing Missouri. Missouri should have been in the Sugar Bowl against Georgia. Might that have changed the outcome of that game? Perhaps, but it would have been a much more evenly matched game and would have given Hawaii the opportunity to match up with Arkansas making THAT a better game as well. As for the Florida game, well, I'm a little disappointed in the Gators, but with all the emotion surrounding Michigan, it isn't that surprising that they were able to pull off the upset and reclaim a season that began so dismally.

The 2007 football season is finally over and it was certainly a banner year for the SEC...let's hope basketball season follows suit.

To Curse or Not To Curse...
Topic: Crap I Don't Understand

So, a number of my friends have recently begun a quest to limit the amount of foul language they use on a daily basis. While I agree that this kind of language can sometimes make you appear less intelligent than you would like, I have to say that I wholeheartedly disagree with the idea that we should limit ourselves in this manner.

Here's why...

I am all about working to improve your language skills - I have been the recipient of the word of the day emails from two dictionaries for over 5 years; however, totally eliminating cursing is a bandwagon I don't think I can get on - at least not in everyday conversation - perhaps in the workplace, but then aren't we most likely in need of such language at work anyway?

Think about it for a second, the real challenge is living your life so that you don't need to use any kind of expletive at all, whether that expletive is deemed profane or not. Making it so that you aren't upset enough to use an invective, even if it is something like 'freakin' or 'nuts' or 'poop'. Because then, you really aren't just avoiding use of bad words, but in reality are still wishing to use profanity, but are censoring yourself based on a preconceived notion that certain words are somehow 'bad'. When in reality someone at some point in history determined that these words should be deemed as such. I say, until you can remove yourself from situations that would cause stress enough to use any word in explecatively, you shouldn't limit yourself by removing these 'profane' words from your lexicon.

That being said...Go Fuck Yourself! :)
