Fire Drill Follies
Well, around 10am this morning, my office had a fire alarm go off. If it isn't bad enough that it is cold outside, I am also one of the Emergency Response Team members for my building. I am still not really sure how that happened, but anyway. So, the alarm goes off and the fire alarm lights start blinking and we all go downstairs to wait for further instructions. While it is a bit cold outside...ok...30 degrees, we aren't outside for very long.
However, it is now 2:30pm and my floor has yet to have the heat restored nor do we have the flashing light turned off. Basically, it seems as though we are having some type of office rave complete with strobe lights. I can't even get into how difficult that makes it to work on a computer. Insane.

You failed to mention that you get to wear a little hat, or is it a vest? I recall a conversation about appropriate emergency response team apparel. Luckily, all are far to scared that I will never shut up, so I do not get sucked into these committees.

Yes, it is an orange mesh vest. I did not put it on, but I did have a bright orange backpack on.

Do you contend that an orange backpack will effectively mark you during an emergency? Dammit, Jim, this is serious!
I think you should get some orange body paint and become a beacon of orangeness. if you are unwilling, i think it is fair to question your committment to the emergency response team.

Well, considering I am a Tennessee Volunteer fan, I do have some orange body paint, but, unfortunately I don't think they would go for that at my office. I could in fact just wear a parking cone on my head along with the vest should another emergency arise.

what a visual-- a dunce cap for getting suckered into the committee, perhaps.

That could be, but at least I got some Red Cross certified training and a couple free meals out of it.
